Common Fertility Problems

Common Fertility Problems

Everyone of us want a family at some point in our lives. Fertility and childbearing is innate, natural and an important part of our identity. It is inexplicable in words how distressing, disheartening and frustrating childlessness can be. Being the best IVF center in Delhi, we understand that seeing friends and colleagues all around enjoying parenthood makes one avoid social circles leading to more isolation. Constant pressure leads to a rift in inter-personal relationships. Disputes between husband and wife also commonly happen. Sex becomes a duty more than pleasure so intimacy suffers.

Dejectedly when a couple visits a primary care gynecologist they don’t get the timely and targeted care they deserve. A primary Gynecologist can only know and do so much, she cannot be expected to deliver results like how a good IVF Centre can. Many times the couple unwittingly undergo numerous ovulation induction and IUI cycles with no benefit. A lot of precious time is wasted. Coming to an IVF Centre becomes the last option, when it should have been the first.

A dedicated and scientific Infertility treatment centre can optimise care and therapy for you. It is important that the cause of your infertility is ascertained first. Both husband and wife are counselled and investigated together. At Janini IVF, the best fertility centre in Delhi, we would take a thorough history and see all your reports holistically. This would enable us to devise a customised treatment plan suited for your individual needs.

Some of the very common conditions that lead to Infertility are :-

  • The woman's age - Today’s age of women empowerment has seen women climbing the corporate ladder fast. Gone are the days when girls used to be married in their teens and a mother in her twenties. Today women want their careers and independence. The most fertile phase of a woman’s life is in twenties, the fertility undergoes a steep decline in her thirties. After the age of 35 this decline is further accelerated. This is due to the fact that the egg quality and quantity both come down after this age.

  • Blocked Fallopian tubes - This is also one of the commoner factors leading to childlessness. Due to infections, tuberculosis, previous surgery or whatever reason when the tubes are blocked the only way the couple can have a baby is through IVF/ICSI. Previously Gynecologists used to do a surgery called Tuboplasty where an attempt was made to cut and rejoin the tubes. Not only is this operation less successful, it can also have serious side effects like ectopic pregnancy and infection. IVF is the safest, cheapest, practical and effective solution to blocked tubes.

  • Low sperm count or Nil sperm count - this is getting so very common these days. The global male population is undergoing a massive shift in semen quality. Sperm count less than 10-15 million/ml will have problems in conceiving. Count less than 5 million is severe oligospermia and then ICSI remains the only option. Rather than focussing on the cause as to why this happened, wisdom lies in going forward, think positive and undergo the ICSI cycle. This is because the most common cause of low sperm count is idiopathic and is not amenable to treatment.

  • Endometriosis - this is responsible for almost 10% of all Infertility cases. This disease leads to symptoms like painful periods and painful intercourse. The tubes can get blocked, and many times ovulation does not occur. If Endometriosis is severe even IUI might not be effective in giving a result - then IVF remains as the most effective and safer method of getting pregnant.

  • Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) - This is commonly known because it is one of the most common causes of female infertility in north India. Almost 10-15% of all women have PCOS and this leads to irregular or absent ovulation, weight gain, abnormal growth of hair and irregular periods. It is important to break the vicious circle of this disease somewhere and bring back the natural hormonal balance. Simple drugs or IUI can be tried first, but if they fail, or if IUI has already been tried 3 times then IVF remains as the gold standard option.

  • Unexplained Infertility - when all reports are normal and yet a couple cannot conceive. It is observed that many times in spite of the fact that all reports are normal, there are subtle defects that cannot be diagnosed with basic testing. Some of those defects include defects in sperm quality or high DNA fragmentation, damage to the cilia lining the tubes making tubes non-functional in spite of being patent, subtle ovulation defects, fertilisation problems and defective embryo hatching due to thick zona. In all these problems, the basic testing like HSG, semen analysis, etc will all be normal and yet there won’t be a pregnancy. The cure is simple - one has to accept the condition and avail fertility treatment. This can either be in the form of drugs, IUI or IVF/ICSI.

Whatever the cause of Infertility maybe, Janini IVF provides you the commitment of being there for you. Our motto is to see you walking back with a baby in your arms and we would leave no stone unturned to deliver that promise.
